Interpreting People: Family, Friends and Others

In recent works, I am including people more frequently in my paintings.  I first ask myself:  What are their interests? What are they feeling? What makes them unique?  Painting portraits has always been an enigma for me.  Included in this gallery are quick studies and several more involved paintings.  I began adding figures to some of my landscapes  and  to my “Twisted Trees/ Twisted Lives Series” several years ago.  Recently I have experimented with quick portraits and paintings of folks’ daily activities.  Several paintings include foreshortening or unusual positioning. Bold colors express bold interpretations. Although painting portraits of people is a major challenge for me, I hope to continue studying faces of folks I know or folks who pique my interest.
